Adirondack Correctional Facility: A Public Health Crisis in the North Country

August 6, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm EDT

adk correctional webinar flyer

Join High Peaks DSA, the Release Aging People in Prison Campaign, and others to learn about the situation at ADK Correctional Facility in Ray Brook, where the state has moved nearly 100 incarcerated people aged 55 and older into a prison nursing home, many of whom face an increased risk of COVID-19 from conditions such as HIV and COPD.

For weeks public health experts, community organizers and residents, and advocates across the state have warned Governor Cuomo that this prison nursing home plan was a recipe for disaster. Our worst nightmare is beginning to come true since there are at least two COVID-19 cases at the facility. Now that the virus is in the prison, it will spread like wildfire, needlessly harming and killing elder New Yorkers in prison.

Racism is a public health crisis, and the dangers faced by incarcerated elders in Ray Brook can be alleviated by lifesaving clemencies and the passage of the Elder Parole bill and Fair and Timely Parole Act. Join this webinar to learn how you, as an ally, can take action against this injustice happening in our community. Join us for this event by registering via Zoom here: bit.ly/ClemencyADK.
